Scottsdale, AZ-based Discount Tire — billed as the world’s largest independent tire and wheel retailer — has opened its 1,000th tire store: a facility located in Phoenix.

Founded in 1960, Discount Tire has grown from a one-man tire shop in Ann Arbor, MI into a franchise with more than 20,000 employees. Discount Tire reached 200 locations in 1990 and 500 stores in 2002. The business has locations in 34 states, with plans to expand into three more states in the near future.
